Bishop Loverde to celebrate Red, White and Blue Masses

Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde will celebrate four special
Masses in October, beginning with the Blue Mass Oct. 3 at St.
Agnes Church, 2002 N. Randolph St., Arlington, at 5 p.m. The
Blue Mass is celebrated to honor and pray for the safety of
men and women who work in police, fire and rescue
departments. The Mass also is in memory of those personnel
who have fallen in the line of duty.

Bishop Loverde will concelebrate the Red Mass at the
Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington Oct. 4 at
10 a.m. Cardinal Donald Wuerl will be the principal celebrant
with Atlanta Archbishop Wilton Gregory the homilist.
Sponsored by the John Carroll Society, the Red Mass is
celebrated on the Sunday before the Supreme Court begins its
term on the first Monday of October, seeking the guidance of
the Holy Spirit on those in the legal profession.

Also Oct. 4, Bishop Loverde will celebrate the Mass for
people with disabilities. Those suffering from physical,
mental or emotional limitations are invited to participate at
Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 8601 Wolftrap Rd., Vienna,
at 5:30 p.m.

The White Mass, offered for doctors, nurses and all health
care professionals, will be celebrated Oct. 18 at the Chapel
of the Sacred Heart of Mary at Marymount University, 2807 N.
Glebe Rd., Arlington, at 8:30 a.m.
