Catholic advocacy events planned in Richmond

As the 2016 Virginia General Assembly session nears, the Virginia Catholic Conference
is planning special prayer and advocacy events in Richmond to
enable Catholics throughout the Commonwealth to make a
positive impact on what happens in Richmond this winter.

Most significant among these is the first-ever Virginia
Vespers: Evening Prayer for the Commonwealth at the historic
Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 800 S. Cathedral Place, Feb.
17 at 5 p.m. Hosted by Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde and
Richmond Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo, the service will draw
on the ancient Christian liturgy to pray for the needs of
Virginia.

The Virginia Stands for Life Rally will take place on Capitol
Square Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. The rally will feature prominent
pro-life speakers, including former Planned Parenthood worker
Abby Johnson.

School Choice Day Jan. 26 is part of National School Choice
Week. Catholic school students and families can meet with
legislators, tour the Capitol and participate in school
choice events.

Advocates are invited to attend one of three Catholics in the
Capital Days: Jan. 26, Feb. 4 and Feb. 17. These days replace
Catholic Advocacy Day, which VCC has discontinued in order to
seek more flexible ways to engage in advocacy during the
General Assembly session.
