Land was cleared for a new church for St. Jude Church in
Fredericksburg last month. The 23 acres of land sits on Lee
Hill School Drive in Spotsylvania.

Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde created the Mission Church
of St. Jude in 2003 within the boundaries of St. Mary of the
Immaculate Conception Church in Fredericksburg. The first
Mass was celebrated at Covenant Funeral Home on Jefferson
Davis Highway in Spotsylvania County. The mission moved to
leased space on Courthouse Road in November 2003.

The mission church became a parish March 28, 2007, with
Father David L. Martin as pastor. The parish moved to a
larger leased space in 2010, and the first capital campaign
was begun to raise funds for a permanent church building.

The parish hopes to break ground for the church in 2016.
