Front Royal vocations dinner to be held June 11

The Knights of Columbus John Carrell Jenkins Council 7771 in
Front Royal will hold its fourth annual vocations dinner for
seminarians and sisters June 11 at the North Warren Volunteer
Fire & Rescue Hall, 89 Rockland Road, Front Royal.

“The dinner has grown from a small fundraising effort to one
of the most significant events our council puts on all year,”
said Michael Bugin, project officer for the 2016 event. “The
dinner provides an excellent opportunity for the parish to
offer gratitude and support to the young men and women who
have answered God’s call.”

St. John the Baptist Church in Front Royal has more
seminarians and sisters in formation than any other parish in
the diocese.

Seven men and three women will be honored this year. The men
are seminarians Brian Accettullo, John Paul Heisler, John
Killackey, Peter McShurley, Dan Mitchell, Joseph Townsend and
Benedictine Brother John McFadden. The sisters are Christina
Heisler (Sister Grace Augustine), Lorraine Podlinsek (Sister
Miriam Esther), and Brittany Scheidler (Sister Immaculata).

Father Mark Ivany from the Archdiocese of Washington will be
the guest speaker at the event. Each of the seminarians
present will deliver testimonials. Letters from the sisters
will be read as well.

When asked what advice seminarians and sisters have for
someone who thinks they may have a vocation, Bugin said,
“Essentially they all speak about three things. One is to
pray to do God’s will. Two is to talk to a priest you know
well. Three is to visit a seminary or convent.

“They also all stress that entering a seminary or convent is
not a lifetime commitment,” Bugin said. “The seminarians and
sisters all state that God will let you know if you should
remain after you have entered. The seminarians and sisters
all encourage young people who think they may have a vocation
to give the seminary or convent a try.”
