Arlington Bishop Michael F. Burbidge celebrated the Spanish Mass
Dec. 11 at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More on the Third Sunday of Advent. Father
Christopher Christiansen, parochial vicar at the cathedral, was the homilist.

At the Mass, Bishop Burbidge issued a statement on immigration.

“My brothers and sisters, I am very happy to be with you and
greet you as your new bishop in the Diocese of Arlington,” Bishop Burbidge said.
“Today is one of joy as we honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and also celebrate the
Third Sunday of Advent.

“Yet, like Juan Diego, you may have fear or worry in your hearts
especially at this time in our nation,” he said.  “So please know that my brother bishops and I
will continue to be your voice to our elected officials as we strongly advocate
for a comprehensive immigration plan that is fair and just and respectful of
families and of the dignity of each person.

“Please pray for your bishops and remember what Mary told Juan
Diego: have courage and trust in her prayers and protection. Thank you for the
gifts you are to our church and our nation. May Our Lady of Guadalupe watch
over and protect you always.”
