The theme for the 2018 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal (BLA) “Living in
Faith — Giving in Gratitude” was exemplified through the tremendous outpouring
of support from 43,500+ parish households who responded to the appeal with
pledges totaling more than $19,600,000 to assist countless people across our
diocese. Thank you to all who participated.
The Bishop’s Lenten Appeal supports and assists 70 parishes, 6
missions, 45 Catholic schools, more than 4,000 parish, school and diocesan
employees and hundreds of thousands of parishioners throughout the diocese.
Programs and ministries that will receive funding from the BLA include the
following listed above.
*Donations to the BLA are treated as restricted gifts and for the
sole benefit of the programs, offices and ministries outlined in the pie chart.
“The Diocese of Arlington is blessed with many individuals and families
that care deeply for the Church’s mission and charitable works.” said Bishop
Michael F. Burbidge. “I am most grateful for their generosity, which will help
sustain our vital diocesan ministries and programs and reflect the Light of
Christ in our midst.”
All BLA donations are treated as restricted gifts and are
allocated for the sole benefit of the programs and ministries outlined in the
appeal materials. The BLA ensures that the diocese will continue to be served
by dedicated priests, religious and lay persons who carry out the pastoral
programs and ministries of our parishes and the diocese. The BLA funds an array
of important ministries and offices including: Vocations, Catholic Charities,
Catholic Schools, Religious Education, Youth/Young Adult and Campus Ministries,
Family and Respect Life, Multicultural Ministries, the Spanish Apostolate and
many others.
The 2019 BLA mailing will be sent at the end of January to
110,000 households in our diocese and will feature the theme, “Together in the
Light of Christ.” The 2019 BLA seeks prayerful reflection and support from all
parishioners to continue the works of charity and outreach funded by this
critical appeal. For more information, please contact the BLA office at 703/841-2570.
