When the 2021 BroadwayWorld Regional Awards were announced Jan. 14 for the Washington area, among the 30-odd winners were Evan Owen and three others from the diocese for their work in ‘HONK!’, a production of All Saints Catholic Church’s Upper Room Theater Ministry in Manassas.
Owen, a junior at Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores, was recognized as best performer in a musical (non-professional).
BroadwayWorld says its regional awards are the largest of their kind, with over 100 cities participating worldwide. The most recent awards highlight both professional and non-professional theater performances between Oct. 1, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2021.
Additional winners in the non-professional category include Jessica Kresge for best costume design of a play or musical; Kara Lilly for best supporting performer in a musical; and Rob Tessier for best direction of a musical. HONK! garnered the best musical award as well.
