The diocesan Catholic Campout drew more than 150 children, parents, and volunteers to Camp William B. Snyder in Haymarket May 6-8, after COVID-19 forced a hiatus following the first Campout in 2019. The event was an opportunity for youth leadership organizations and families to grow in Catholic fellowship outdoors. Participating organizations included the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Trail Life and American Heritage Girls.

Despite persistent rain, many families and youth organizations camped out, and more participants arrived May 7. Activities included an outdoor sweet shop, climbing towers, gaga pits, model rocket launches and tie-dying t-shirts. The Campout also featured a 5K challenge-based course, including a variety of mental and physical challenges and obstacles. Families had the opportunity to participate in a rosary rally and confession. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge celebrated Mass for the Campout, noting in his homily that Christ will always lead his people as the Good Shepherd. He said that even as a bishop he walks behind his own crosier, following Christ’s path.

The diocesan Office of Youth, Campus, and Young Adult Ministries credited the hard work of many volunteers to ensuring the Campout’s success.
