Kara Wilson, who attended St. Thomas a Becket in Reston, made a commitment as a Providence Associate with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., last month.
In order to become a Providence Associate, a candidate is paired with a Sister of Providence or Providence Associate companion and goes through a year of study, prayer, and reflection. Providence Associate Co-Director Sister Susan Paweski, SP, said Wilson companioned with Providence Associate Julia Lopez-Kaley.
“Both candidate and companion commit to praying and meeting on a regular basis to unfold the mission and ministry of the Sisters of Providence,” Sister Susan said. “A binder of materials, the Spiritual Integration Units, provides the background, spirituality and mission of the Congregation.”
Providence Associates are women and men of faith who choose to have an intentional relationship with the Sisters of Providence, a Congregation of Catholic women religious who collaborate with others to create a more just and hope-filled world through prayer, education, service and advocacy. St. Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence in 1840. Today, Sisters of Providence minister in 13 states, Washington, D.C., and Asia, through a congregation of 214 women religious and 300 Providence Associates.
