Orange Out returned to Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores Jan. 6. The tradition is more than just a spirited basketball game. The school held its first Orange Out in November 2011 to support a student diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia while she was very sick in the hospital. At the event, all her classmates wore orange, the color for leukemia awareness.
Since then, event has become a tradition to remember the student and support all who fight cancer. At the game, John Paul the Great fans, decked out in orange, remain quiet until the Wolves score the 13th point and then erupt with cheers for the team and the student whose battle ended Dec. 13, 2011.
