Spotlight on the Arts Summer Camps will be held July 10-21 in Burke and Manassas.
Founded in 2004 by Rob Tessier, director of Youth Ministry including Young Adults and Theatre at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, the camps provide children with training in theatre and art.
The goal of the Spotlight team is to foster a love for the arts and help young people develop skills to last a lifetime.
Hosted by diocesan Catholic parishes, the program has a small teacher-to-student ratio and employs Catholic and artistically accomplished instructors, including Tessier.
A father of nine, including one with special needs, Tessier has decades of professional experience in the arts and an understanding of what children need when it comes to arts instruction.
As an undergraduate theatre student at Miami University, he taught and designed drama curricula for community center organizations. He founded the St. Mark Theatre Ministry for Youth and Young Adults in Vienna to merge both faith and drama.
He attended the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and traveled with the Greatest Show on Earth and still does special events. He felt a strong calling to youth ministry so he left his performance career to become a parish youth minister in the Arlington diocese.
He founded the award-winning Upper Room Theatre Ministry and a few years later, the Spotlight on the Arts Summer Camps.
The performing arts camps include Broadway Spotlight and Drama Bootcamp, and the visual arts camps include Arts and Crafts Fun, and Art Explorer.
The camps are fully licensed and insured and all Spotlight staffers are approved to work with young people through the diocesan Child Protection and Safety Program.
