Members of Contigo Youth Club sold more than 300 handmade rosary bracelets the weekend of March 18 and 19 after Masses at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Falls Church.

For three weeks, members prepared for the sale by making more than 300 rosary bracelets, designing and building their selling booth and made signs to advertise.

The money raised will go toward covering the costs for staffing, materials and field trips for Camp Contigo, a seven-week summer day camp. Contigo features baking, sewing, sports and games, but what sets this camp apart is the religious aspect.

“We wanted to bring what the youth development world does really well, like after school programs and summer camps, and then what the church has to offer and bring those things together,” said co-founder Mariah Naegele.

Many summer camps in the area are cost-prohibitive, but Contigo is an affordable option parents can count on. Contigo is $100 per week and provides a lot of additional need-based financial assistance to families on a sliding scale.

They plan to have more fundraisers soon. Contigo members love cooking, so snack sales featuring mangonadas (chopped mango with chamoy, a tamarind stick and lime) and elotes locos (corn on the cob with mayonnaise, cheese, ketchup, mustard, and salsa negra) are likely to happen soon.
