Porto Charities, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, invites nominations for three new advocacy awards, the winners of which will be announced in May.
The Porto Charities’ Advocacy Award will be given annually in three distinct categories recognizing the effort and impact the recipient has in inspiring an atmosphere of inclusion and belonging for students and young adults: outstanding parish/school; outstanding educator; and outstanding peer mentor.
The awards are open to any individual working or serving in the Arlington diocese. Nominations will close April 28. The organization’s board of directors and an awards selection committee will choose the winners, who will be announced in May and honored at a special dinner reception June 24 at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate Mass prior to the awards dinner, which will also feature a silent auction and dancing.
