The General Secretariat of the Synod is inviting the entire church to observe a moment of prayer May 31, the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, placing the Synod under her protection. The Synod will be held in October.

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge has invited parishes throughout the diocese to observe the day of prayer at Masses May 31.

Parishioners are also invited to recite the “Prayer for the Synod”, provided by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, during Mass.

You may also find more local information about the Synod on the USCCB’s website and the diocesan website.

The Synod prayer is included below, and other resources are available at USCCB.org/synod.

Prayer for the Synod

We stand before You, Holy Spirit,

as we gather together in Your name.

With You alone to guide us,

make Yourself at home in our hearts;

Teach us the way we must go

and how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful;

do not let us promote disorder.

Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path

nor partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity

so that we may journey together to eternal life

and not stray from the way of truth

and what is right.

All this we ask of You,

who are at work in every place and time,

in the communion of the Father and the Son,

forever and ever. Amen.
