Bishop Michael F. Burbidge will lead a diocesan pilgrimage to the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Emmitsburg, Md., Oct. 7, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and include a talk, Mass, a visit to the Seton shrine’s museum, procession and adoration. The two shrines within this pilgrimage are at separate locations and require a six-minute drive. Transportation to Emmitsburg is not provided, but some parishes are coordinating buses. Contact your parish for possible travel arrangements.
A plenary indulgence is available to the faithful who visit the National Shrine Grotto individually on feast days of Our Lady, and on all Saturdays and on all Sundays; and by members of a pilgrimage group on any day of the year. For the indulgence, pilgrims are requested to fulfill the usual conditions of reconciliation, Communion and prayers for the intention of the pope. In addition, faithful are requested to recite a Hail Mary with the invocation, “O Mary, Virgin and Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me,” at the Grotto Cave.
