Mass gathers military and first responders

The annual Mass for Military and First Responders was celebrated at St. Leo the Great Church in Fairfax Sept. 10.

Father Robert J. Rippy, judicial vicar, chancellor and Arlington County Police Chaplain since 2001, celebrated the Mass. Bishop Emeritus Paul S. Loverde presided.

The Mass drew members of the military, first responders and public safety officials, as well as the Knights of Columbus.

The chalice used at the Mass originally was used by St. John Paul II in 2001 and is a second-class relic.
