Cardinal Christophe Pierre being appointed to the College of Cardinals

In union with my brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the Diocese of Arlington, I congratulate Cardinal Christophe Pierre on his appointment to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis. Cardinal Pierre has served the Church admirably in many fruitful and sacrificial ways. Having been a parish priest and diplomat, as well as an apostolic nuncio to four countries, he is a tremendous gift to the Church and is a well-regarded and experienced advisor to our Holy Father. His tenure as an apostolic nuncio is marked by his zeal for bringing Christ to the peripheries of society and culture. He has been a steadfast voice for the poor and the marginalized. I pray that God blesses Cardinal Pierre as he takes on additional responsibilities as a cardinal, serving the Holy Father and Our Lord with continued selflessness and devotion to the Gospel.
