Several parishes hosted weekend observances Oct. 7-8 celebrating the Oct. 4 feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Priests at St. Ann Church in Arlington and St. John the Apostle Church in Leesburg blessed pets on Oct. 7, while Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Arlington invited parishioners and their pets after the noon Mass Oct. 8 for a blessing.
