The 18th annual Sweats for Vets campaign netted more than $15,000 in sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks and other winter care items to help military veterans keep the chill away, organizers said.

Members of the local Knights of Columbus — including from Our Lady of Hope Church in Potomac Falls Ancient Order of Hibernians, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other volunteers helped collect donations that were presented to the Veterans Affairs medical center in Martinsburg, W.Va., last month.

More than 500 outfits were provided, along with hundreds of greeting cards addressed to veterans from children throughout Northern Virginia.

Military Services Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Coffey joined in the presentation and opening prayers.
