Why did you write this book? In August 2020, when I was 46 years old, I suffered a stroke that left me struggling to speak and almost died. I wrote this book because God spared my life. “Trapped” is an autobiography that describes my recovery and life with non-fluent aphasia, a brain disorder that inhibits speech and understanding others’ speech. I am donating all the royalties the book earns to WorkCamp, which I attend. It is fantastic.

What’s something else the average Catholic in the pew should know about it? The goals of this book are two-fold.

First, I would like to inspire others who are recovering from strokes or traumatic brain injuries. You can do this. Keep trying and never give up. Each year, 795,000 people in America will have strokes and those who survive need to be prepared to fight for every yard. It helps if you are blessed with a strong support network, like me, but I would fight by myself, and you should too.

Second, I would like to demonstrate to my friends and family my sense of humor and my determination.
