More than 100 people gathered for a June 3 lecture by Msgr. Charles Pope, pastor of Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian Church in Washington, on the souls in purgatory at St. John the Beloved Academy in McLean.
At the event, held in partnership with the Pro Animis Sanctis in Purgatorio (Holy Souls Purgatorial Prayer Society), attendees first spent time in prayer for the poor souls. During the lecture, Msgr. Pope cited passages from Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to explain why souls are purified before entering heaven.
