Traffik

Muddled thriller about an idealistic journalist (Paula Patton) who, while on vacation with her live-in boyfriend (Omar Epps), stumbles across the victim (Dawn Olivieri) of a human trafficking ring (led by Luke Goss) and is soon herself being terrorized by the gangsters. Writer-director Deon Taylor’s ostensibly good intentions about dramatizing a very grave real-world problem are offset by weak storytelling, implausible plot developments and sensationalism.

Watch out for: Nasty, sometimes gory violence, drug use, cohabitation, scenes of sensuality with partial nudity, pervasive rough and crude language.

Rated: L, limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling; MPAA: R
