St. John’s girls dethrone O’Connell

Sophomore Cady Hyde finished first with a time of 19:28 leading the varsity girls of St. John’s College High School in Washington to the team title in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference cross country championship Oct. 28 at Bull Run Park in Centreville. 

Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria finished second.

It was the first time in 10 years that Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington did not win the girls’ title. The Knights, led by Tess Brinkmann and Ryley Howard, finished third. 

On the boys’ side, O’Connell’s Max Greczyn finished first with a time of 16:09, but O’Connell finished third overall as Gonzaga College High School in Washington captured the team title. Joe Paquette of Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax finished sixth with a time of 17:14.
