For this year’s graduation issue, the Catholic Herald gathered the four diocesan high school mascots for a photo shoot at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington.

The job of a mascot is busy — spending time on and off the field at sporting events, rousing the crowd at pep rallies and making special appearances at school events.

Each school sent their mascot escorted by student representatives. O’Connell’s Knight was played by senior Jessica Seager with Haley Breaux and Seth Viani; the Cardinal from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria was Creighton Quaadman with Jared Ponmakha; the Panther from Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax was James Dunbar with Bridget Fitzsimon and Jack Orr; and the Wolf from Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries was Maggie Gildersleeve accompanied by Morgan Tabler and Natalie Beck, who is part of the Options Program and a cheerleader.

The photo shoot gave the “characters” a chance to mingle and the students, mostly seniors, to rally around their school icon.
