Senior center renovated while closed

First slide

A new and improved facility will welcome seniors back to St. Martin de Porres Senior Center in Alexandria in a couple months. The center, closed since March 2020 because of the pandemic, recently was renovated with new walls between activity rooms, rewired electrical outlets, LED lighting, fresh paint and the addition of a supply shed outside. The monthslong project was completed by the nonprofit HomeAid.

“The renovations occurred at a good time for us because the center has been closed due to the pandemic,” said Anne Coyne, the center’s program director. “Now we can’t wait to welcome the seniors back and have a nice new facility to greet them upon their arrival.”

Staff was able to continue working alongside the construction and now are starting to move supplies back into the renovated spaces, said Coyne.

The center is planning a reopening party in May or June, depending on the status of the pandemic and vaccination rollout, to welcome seniors back to the improved facility.
