Eucharistic document to be discussed further, Bishop says on podcast

First slide

The Eucharist is not political but spiritual, said Bishop Michael F. Burbidge in his June 21 “Walk Humbly Podcast.” He explained that the bishops are seeking to help the Catholic faithful regain “Eucharistic wonder and awe.”

In light of the discussion and debate, no teaching document concerning the Eucharist was finalized at the recent meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Spring General Assembly, said Bishop Burbidge.

He noted that bishops voted to give permission to the Doctrine Committee to provide a draft document on the Eucharist, which will continue to be discussed throughout the summer at regional meetings of bishops.

“Bishops cannot give up this role of being teachers of the faith,” he said. “We must always teach the truth in love.”
