Marymount University welcomes new provost

Hesham El-Rewini is the new provost at Marymount University in Arlington beginning this month. El-Rewini comes to the university after serving at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks since 2008, where he worked as dean of the college of engineering and mines as well as senior vice provost (2017-18). Before UND, El-Rewini served at Southern Methodist University in University Park, Texas, for seven years and University of Nebraska in Omaha for 11 years. He has his doctorate in computer science from Oregon State University in Corvallis.

“We have bold plans for the future of Marymount as we strive to become an elite Catholic institution that is nationally recognized for innovation,” said Irma Becerra, Marymount president. “We are honored to bring Dr. El-Rewini on board, and we are sure he will be instrumental in helping lead us into a new era of transformative education.”

“Many factors have attracted me to Marymount,” said El-Rewini, “most important of all are its talented people, strategic location near the nation’s capital, new strategic plan and incredible potential to be recognized among the very best universities nationally and internationally. I’m excited about working with the faculty and staff to strike a good balance between expanding our existing strong programs and offering new, innovative programs in strategically important areas to a larger pool of students.”
