Bishop Michael F. Burbidge celebrated a Mass for Respect Life Month Oct. 10 at St. Timothy Church in Chantilly. In a first, he blessed and recognized pro-life leaders from around the diocese that included Respect Life coordinators from various parishes as well as Catholics active in supporting the
Gabriel Project and Project Rachel programs, which provide pregnancy assistance and post-abortive healing and support, respectively.

In his homily, Bishop Burbidge recalled the example of St. Joseph as a wise and faithful servant and recited a portion of
A Prayer to St. Joseph, Defender of Life, published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

“St. Joseph: May your example inspire us also to welcome, cherish and safeguard God’s most precious gift of life, especially where it is vulnerable and threatened,” he said.

“We pray fervently that all of life will be welcomed, cherished and safeguarded,” he added.

Following Mass, Bishop Burbidge greeted the pro-life leaders and commended their work to build a culture of life in the Diocese of Arlington.
