High school placement test for eighth graders

Eighth graders (attending public or non-Catholic private schools) interested in attending Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax or Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores next fall must take the high school placement test.

The test will be administered Nov. 23 (snow date Dec. 9) and Jan. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Ireton, O'Connell, Paul VI and John Paul the Great.

Students taking the test must submit a registration form along with the $35 test fee to the test site no later than Nov. 22 for the Nov. 23 test date. No student may take the test more than once and no seventh grade students may take the test.

Admission to the high schools is based on students’ total performance as indicated by their complete records, including the permanent record of all end-of-year grades kindergarten through seventh grade; the current report card for eighth grade, with final marks being forwarded at the completion of the grade; all scores received from standardized testing kindergarten through seventh grade; the eighth grade placement test; and the eighth grade information form, which provides additional evaluation for recommendation based on academic performance, participation in school activities, disciplinary record and any other information that will allow the high school to determine the student’s potential ability.

All materials assist high schools in placing students in courses that best meet their needs.
