Timothy Guy was appointed the new principal of Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria. He will start July 1, following the retirement of Principal Denise Tobin.

“It is with great privilege that I have appointed Dr. Guy to serve in partnership with Mrs. Kathleen McNutt as the leadership team at Bishop Ireton," said Bishop Michael F. Burbidge in a press release March 22. "Dr. Guy’s energy and, most importantly, his focus on the Catholic identity and mission of Bishop Ireton is going to further elevate this impressive Catholic high school in the coming years.”

Guy has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Mount St. Mary’s College; a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville; and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

He taught math at several high schools, including George Mason High School in Falls Church, where he served as dean of students for two years and then assistant principal for 11. From 2013 to 2014, he was assistant principal of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School in Falls Church. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Tech and an adjunct instructor at George Mason University in Fairfax. In 2018, he joined Ireton as a math teacher and served as chair of the math department.

“Being a part of the Bishop Ireton community as a teacher has been a true blessing and I am delighted to be selected as the next principal,” said Guy. “I am humbled by the trust and responsibility imparted upon me by the search committee, Head of School Kathleen McNutt, the Office of Catholic Schools and Bishop Burbidge. I am grateful to Principal Denise Tobin for her years of service and aspire to continue to work with the community, colleagues and students to facilitate Bishop Ireton’s mission to ‘Advance Always.’ ”
