Bill Simmons was appointed interim athletic director at Bishop
Ireton High School in Alexandria, returning to a role he held from 2007 until
2018 when he retired. He replaces Bryce Bevill, who resigned at the close of
the school year.
Simmons joined Ireton in 2001, where he served as business
manager, director of operations and dean of students before assuming the position
of athletic director. He has a bachelor’s in physical education from Iowa State
University in Ames and a master’s in Catholic school leadership from Marymount
University in Arlington. Prior to Ireton, he served for 23 years in the U.S.
Marine Corps.
“Bill will be a blessing to our athletes, coaches and families,
as he shares his knowledge of Bishop Ireton athletics and the WCAC through his work,” said
Kathleen McNutt, head of school. “We are grateful for his willingness to ‘steady the helm’ while the
search for a new athletic director takes place.”
