  • Things that make us happy this week Vol. 3

Hello readers! Here at the Catholic Herald, we’ve noticed that our collective physical isolation has led to a lot of creativity, often showcased online. Once a week throughout this pandemic, we’ll bring you fun and uplifting videos, photos and posts from people throughout the diocese. Let’s get right to it!

    — Ever heard of Flat Stanley? A kindergarten teacher at St. William of York School in Stafford mailed a cutout version of herself to her students so she could accompany them on all their adventures. We can’t wait to see what “Flat Mrs. Baffa” and her students do!

      — Love those homemade quarantine-inspired music videos? We do too. Watch these kids from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Lake Ridge try to convince their parents to let them go.

        — Online Masses are great, but we’ve missed singing along with the choir. Hum a bar or two this Zoom-style version of “Jesus Christ is Risen Today,” performed by the Cathedral Choir.

Chorister Michele Bueno explains how they made it. "Each of us recorded a video separately at home while listening to a piano accompaniment track that kept us in tune and on tempo," she said. "Then one of our brilliant and technically-talented sopranos, Lauren Fishburn, used some professional-grade software and spent all weekend merging and editing the videos into one cohesive video that makes it sound like we are singing all at the same time."
