Nativity student wins St. Patrick coloring contest

Thirteen children were recognized for their artwork in the Ancient Order of Hibernians annual St. Patrick coloring contest at St. Mary of Sorrows Church in Fairfax Feb. 28, with a fourth grader from Nativity Catholic School in Burke taking home the top honors.

Rory Keightley received $100 as the grand prize winner. The 12 other students each received $25.

All 13 students received a framed copy of their winning submission, a St. Patrick holy card, a t-shirt and a shamrock plant, popularized by the saint in his explanations of the Holy Trinity.

There were nearly 2,000 entries in the contest from more than 20 diocesan schools.

The contest is in its eighth year.

The winners are:

Grand prize winner: Rory Keightley, fourth grade, Nativity Catholic School in Burke.

First grade winners: Camila Boivin, St. Bernadette School in Springfield; Luke Phillip, All Saints Catholic School in Manassas; and Isabella Gutu, St. Bernadette.

Second grade: Sofia O’Toole, St. Bernadette; Yohanna Alvarez, Queen of Apostles School in Alexandria; and Arsema Noah, St. Veronica School in Chantilly.

Third grade: Josephine Searby, Our Lady of Hope School in Potomac Falls; Adriano Light, Holy Family School in Dale City; and Hudson Eatherly, Basilica of St. Mary School in Alexandria.

Fourth grade: Isobelle Iezzi, Linton Hall School in Bristow; Piper Jellish, St. Louis School in Alexandria; and Harpers Medawar, St. Francis of Assisi School in Triangle.
