The Ancient Order of Hibernians honored 13 students in its seventh annual St. Patrick coloring contest during an event at the St. Mary of Sorrows Church parish center in Fairfax March 1.
Approximately 50 of the students’ friends, family members and teachers also attended.
Each student received a contest t-shirt, their contest entry framed, and a shamrock plant.
Kyla Stauffer, fourth grader at St. Timothy School in Chantilly, also received a $50 cash prize for winning the overall competition.
Hibernians from seven divisions throughout the diocese helped contribute to the contest coordinated by Harry Flynn and Dan Sullivan.
First grade winners were: Collin See (first place), St. Joseph School, Herndon; Arsema Noah (second place), St. Veronica School, Chantilly; and Emily Dunn (third place), St. Timothy.
Second grade winners (in order): Nataliya Acuna, St. Bernadette School, Springfield; Amelia Mountain, St. Bernadette; and Precious Anor, All Saints Catholic School in Manassas.
Third grade: Isabelle Iezzi, Linton Hall School, Bristow; Olivia Murphy, St. Luke School, McLean; and Emily Piombo, St. Bernadette.
Fourth grade: Daniel Valdes, All Saints; Thomas Myers, Holy Spirit School, Annandale; and Liam McBride, Holy Spirit.
