Suspended from his job as the result of a scandal, a previously work-obsessed NFL coach (Kevin James) temporarily relocates to his Texas hometown where his ex-wife (Jackie Sandler) and preteen son (Tait Blum) still live and, in an effort to bond with the alienated lad, joins the coaching staff (led by Taylor Lautner) of the boy’s Pop Warner football team.

Under the direction of Charles and Daniel Kinnane, lame comedy mars what might have been a good-hearted fact-based drama about family reconciliation. Instead, viewers are left in the lurch by a range of gags that fall flat far more often than they succeed.

Watch out for: Graphic gross-out humor, a few mild oaths, several crass expressions.

Rated: A-II — adults and adolescents. MPAA: PG.
