For a taste of Italian cuisine and opera music in one place, join Chuckie Ibay in Old Town Alexandria for opera night at Trattoria da Franco restaurant, 305 S. Washington St., from 7 to 9 p.m. May 31.

Ibay, a parishioner of St. Mary of Sorrows Church in Fairfax, is a blind concert pianist and opera singer who has been performing on opera nights since 2008. “You get both a great dinner and a great show in the same evening for one price,” said Ibay. “My wife, Lovancy, will be playing the violin with me on a couple of selections. My theme for this month’s opera night is En Mayo en Mexico and I will also be including a couple of opera arias by Verdi and Puccini.”

Ibay is praying 100 rosaries “so that we will have great attendance and a great opera night,” he said. “Playing at Trattoria da Franco is a unique experience. It is unlike the Kennedy Center where it’s very formal and you can’t bring any food or drink into the concert hall.”
