As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Arlington Catholic Herald, I am filled with profound joy and thanksgiving for this invaluable instrument of evangelization that has faithfully served our Diocese of Arlington and the broader Northern Virginia region since its inception.
Since 1976, this newspaper has been a true herald of the Gospel, encouraging the faithful and illuminating the path of faith amid the challenges and opportunities of our times. It has chronicled the vibrant life of our local church, shared stories of conversion and grace, and proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ with clarity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the truth.
From its earliest editions, the Catholic Herald has reached into homes, parishes, schools and beyond to provide hopeful and positive news. Through its articles, inspiring interviews, and thoughtful commentaries, it has highlighted the often heroic witness of our priests, consecrated religious and laity. Whether reporting on parish ministries, diocesan initiatives, or global church events, the Catholic Herald has served as a vital bridge, connecting us to one another and to the universal Body of Christ.
I applaud the dedicated editors, writers, photographers and staff who have poured their talents into this apostolate over the decades. I am confident that the Catholic Herald will continue to serve our diocese well in the years to come. May this anniversary inspire gratitude for the gifts God has bestowed upon us through the Catholic Herald and may he continue to bless and guide all those who are a part of its mission to evangelize by providing news from a Catholic perspective in a world ever in need of good news.
