The Fourth of July celebration represents the birth of our nation and is a day to reflect on our freedom. Our forefathers established a country founded on core principles, including the freedom to practice our faith. This right is vital to our daily lives and must never be taken for granted.
Since 1776, our nation has been through many challenging times but has remained steadfast in its goal to attain a “more perfect union” as one nation under God. To that end, we, as people of faith, have a duty to pray and sacrifice for the dignity of every person and the common good, and to be instruments of peace. It is for this cause that we gather around fireworks and good food, as family and friends, to commemorate and to celebrate our nation’s founding.
May God bless all the faithful in our diocese and those in our communities. And, through the intercession of our country’s patroness, Mary of the Immaculate Conception, may God bless the United States of America, today and always.
