“This Seminar was very informative and insightful. I especially enjoyed it because it was Catholic based, and my faith is important to me, and I want it to guide my decisions in these aspects of life.”

The Office of Development at the Catholic Diocese of Arlington offers Catholic Estate and Personal Planning Seminars to assist people in preparing for critical end-of-life decisions that deal with personal planning, Catholic teaching, and charitable considerations. These seminars are hosted at parishes across the Diocese for the benefit of our parishioners.

Most recently, two seminars were held at St. John the Apostle Church. There were approximately 50 people in attendance who learned about the importance of creating Wills/Trusts and how planning for their future makes the handling of their affairs easier for family members upon their death.

There are three primary topics discussed at each seminar. The first focuses on relevant issues pertaining to personal and estate planning. The second covers the Catholic Advance Medical Directives (AMD). Amy McInerny, Director, Respect Life Office, provides a detailed review of the AMD and the importance of every adult over 18 years of age having a signed Directive. The final section shares information on tax planning and provides ideas on assets that an individual may donate and how to gain the best tax benefits from those gifts.

One past attendee wrote the following on their evaluation:

“The AMD discussion provided very important information about important life decisions…we all need encouragement to get health issues formalized and established.”

A few additional comments from past seminars include:

“Enlightening and calming to address a necessary part of life. The speakers provided a structured, easy way to plan the what ifs so I can continue with what is!”

“The seminar gave me a basic understanding of a plan of action to a very complicated system.”

“A must to know do not delay, best investment for your life.”
