Youth Apostles, a community of consecrated clerics and single, married and consecrated laymen seeking to inspire youths to live a Christ-like life, welcomed new commitments during a liturgy celebrated by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge at St. Luke Church in McLean July 9.

Sean Mazary, John Lilly, Kieran Koch, Matias Paniagua, Keith Brown, Eric Carlson and Matthew Clem made various degrees of promises to live a deep spiritual life centered on the Eucharist, to experience an active community life with their brothers and to dedicate their apostolic efforts to working with young people.

Youth Apostles aims to show young people that everyone is called to holiness; everyone is called to live a life of prayer and moral virtue; and that the church desperately needs the service of all its children to expand God’s kingdom.

Newly ordained Youth Apostle priest, Father Peter Clem, reminded everyone during the homily that the word “apostle” means “one who is sent” and that, “We are called to run up that hill to Calvary in poverty, chastity and obedience” without fear in imitation of Mary, who is held up as a model for the community.  “We all must be sent without fear,” he said.
