Alvaré to be honored at CDU gala

Helen Alvaré will receive the Founders Award at the
Catholic Distance University awards gala Nov. 21. Arlington
Bishop Paul S. Loverde will host the gala at the Westin
Arlington Gateway Hotel, 801 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington,
beginning with a Mass to honor CDU’s 2015 graduates at 5 p.m.

Alvaré is an adviser to the Civil Rights Law Journal
and Latino Law Student Association of George Mason
University, consultor for the Pontifical Council of the
Laity, adviser to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and
founder of womenspeakforthemselves.com.

“During her outstanding career, Helen has focused on the
defense of the unborn and has courageously championed
marriage in the public arena,” said Marianne Evans Mount, CDU
president.

Richard Doerflinger, associate director for pro-life
activities for USCCB, called Alvaré “a leading
spokeswoman for Catholic pro-life feminism.”
