Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria welcomes the entire
student body back to campus for the 2021-22 school year. Though the world
continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, Ireton is well-prepared to
tackle any challenges ahead.
The full reopening plan was sent to families and students at the
beginning of July 2021 and is updated as needed based on recommendations from
the Virginia State Health Commissioner and the Arlington diocese. As with other
diocesan schools, masks are required for students, faculty and staff inside the
building to begin the school year. This policy will be maintained until
otherwise directed. The school has put in place enhanced cleaning procedures,
air filters throughout the school building and other mitigation
strategies.
The new principal, Tim Guy, begins his first full year on the
administrative team after serving as a member of the faculty for several years.
Ireton also welcomes Jane Hannon as its new assistant principal dean of faculty
and Jon Pressimone as its new assistant principal of student life.
The faculty welcomes Aurora Blochberger (English), Rosario
Cicoria (world language), Christopher Clark (math), Rosie Driscoll (English),
Rory O’Donnell (religion), Shannon Sanders (science), Cathlene Shearon (math),
Mary Style (social studies) and David Yeago (English). The faculty also
welcomes Jennifer Stackpole (art) as a full-time teacher after serving as a
proctor last year and Ben Gerke (special services), who moves from the position
of permanent substitute to the special services team.
“We’re blessed to welcome a number of new faculty members to the
Cardinal family,” said Guy. “Their enthusiasm for our school is already evident
and we know they will use their considerable talents to make their mark on our
students.”
Ireton chose a quote from St. Francis de Sales: “We must
sometimes take a step backward in order to better spring forward; let us
practice well holy resignation and pure love of Our Lord” as its theme and
guiding message for the school year.
“After a challenging but successful 2020-21 school year, I couldn’t
be more excited to welcome back the entire student body to our campus for the
2021-2022 school year,” said Head of School Kathleen McNutt. “I’m eager to see
the full utilization of our beautiful facilities and work with outstanding new
and returning faculty and staff. Reflecting on our theme for the year, we’ve
had many moments over the last 18 months where we’ve had to step back,
reassess, pray and determine the best course of action to move forward. And
this year, while not every challenge or difficulty will disappear, we move ‘Forward
in Faith.’ I look forward to a fruitful, safe and exciting 2021-22 school year
where we will continue our mission to ‘Advance Always.’ ”
