Bishop Michael F. Burbidge visited the new, larger location of Catholic Charities Christ House pantry at 4725A Eisenhower Ave. in Alexandria Jan. 5. He blessed the facility and encouraged the staff and volunteers to continue their important work providing perishable and nonperishable food including produce, dairy, meat and canned items to those in need. He was joined by Stephen J. Carattini, president and CEO of diocesan Catholic Charities, and Father Robert C. Cilinski, episcopal vicar for charitable works and pastor of Nativity Catholic Church in Burke.
Catholic Charities has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people seeking aid. Catholic Charities has gone from serving 260 individuals each week at the Christ House pantry at the beginning of 2023 to an average of 365 individuals weekly at the new location — a 40% increase.
