Bishop Cantú to address Peace and Justice event

Bishop Oscar Cantu of Las Cruces, N.M., will be the keynote speaker at the Peace and Justice event Feb. 20 at Good Shepherd Church in Alexandria.

The Arlington Peace and Justice Commission will sponsor “Make
Me a Channel of Your Peace: What Pope Francis Asks of us as
Peacemakers” at Good Shepherd Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Hwy.,
Alexandria, Feb. 20, starting with Mass at 5 p.m.

Bishop Oscar Cantú of Las Cruces, N.M., chairman of
the USCCB Committee on International Justice and Peace, will
deliver the keynote address.

“This event presents an opportunity to look at war and
violence and the impact on people’s lives, particularly
regarding migration and refugee issues,” said Father Gerry
Creedon, Arlington Peace and Justic Commission chairman. “The
pope’s direction asks our parishes to be places of welcome,
bearing in mind the faith that unites us. Hopefully, we will
become beacons of belonging and acceptance.”
