It is with great joy that I join so many Catholic Christians
and people of good will around the world in celebrating the
news of the approval of a second miracle attributed to the
intercession of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, which
prepares the path for her canonization. This woman of great
mercy brought the love of the Lord Jesus Christ to so many on
the margins: to the poorest of the poor, to those suffering
from serious and debilitating illnesses, and to those, who at
the end of their lives, were preparing to meet the Lord.
During this Jubilee of Mercy, it is important for us to
contemplate and call upon the intercession of this model of
mercy, a woman whose “yes” to the Lord Jesus’ call to serve
Him in the poor brought comfort to so many. Today the Church
has given us a great gift in this announcement. Blessed
Mother Teresa is an imitable example of gentle strength,
unwavering commitment to uphold the dignity of every human
person, and a life anchored in Eucharistic love.
