The St. Thomas More Cathedral Concert season begins Friday, Nov.
9, with a performance by the Broadway Chamber Players at 8 p.m.
Founded by Broadway musicians, the group continues the tradition
of live music, bringing extraordinary musicians from the pit to the stage. Four
of Broadway’s most sought after and versatile musicians will perform works by
Gershwin, Shostakovich and Debussy, among others.
The series continues with the traditional service of Lessons and
Carols Sunday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The service traces its beginnings to the
Kings College Chapel in Cambridge, England, and has been celebrated throughout
the world. It contains seasonal scripture readings, followed by choral and
handbell carols retelling the story of salvation from the Fall of Adam to the
birth of the Christ Child.
The Oakcrest Concert Chorus will perform Friday, Feb. 8, at 8
p.m. The chorus is a pillar of the Oakcrest music program, which sang at St.
Peter’s Basilica in Rome at the papal Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of
God. The chorus will be joined by Oakcrest alumna, Grace Gilday, soprano, and
the school’s private vocal instructor, Madelyn Salazar, mezzo soprano.
The Anniversary Concert on Friday, June 14, at 8 p.m. will mark
the 50th anniversary of the Cathedral Choir of St. Thomas More and the 20th
anniversary of the Arlington Diocesan Choir. They will perform a selection of
choral works commissioned for these ensembles. Mary Beth Bennett, a nationally
acclaimed organist and composer, will be the guest artist for this performance.
