St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington cut the ribbon for
five outdoor spaces outfitted with large white tents, desks, tables, chairs and
whiteboards Feb. 9.

Father Patrick L. Posey, rector, blessed the classrooms accompanied
by Principal Catherine Davis, Assistant Principal Nelda Thomas and students of parents
who led the Race for Education Committee that raised nearly $70,000 in
donations last fall from the St. Thomas More school community and parish. The
classrooms will be used for student instruction, lunch and ministry groups, and
are named after saints chosen by the students: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St.
Juan Diego, St. Junipero Serra, St. Rose of Lima and St. Martin de Porres.

Father Posey blessed the new space as “a place to hold meetings
and functions, to be outside during lunch with your classmates, to be nourished
and strengthened in mind, body and soul.”

“Numerous studies have shown students benefit from being outdoors
and our parents

supported this project because with COVID it is a priority to
have fresh air and circulation as much as possible,” said Davis. “The community
has been incredibly grateful and supportive of our in-person instruction five
days a week.”
