Support for teachers and students in Catholic schools in the
Diocese of Arlington was assisted by a donation of $5,000 from Catholic
Business Network of Northern Virginia.
Bishop Michael F. Burbidge accepted the check at St. Ambrose parish
hall in Annandale July 31. Father Andrew J. Fisher, pastor of St. Ambrose, is
chaplain of CBN-NOVA.
“I think it’s wonderful that Catholic business leaders are
supporting each other because I hear all the stories and challenges of how
difficult it can be for people in the corporate and business world to bring our
faith, bring our moral convictions, into the corporate world and public arena,”
said Bishop Burbidge. “We are so blessed in our diocese to have people like you
who are being steadfast in doing that work.”
CBN-NOVA is dedicated to improving
life within the local Catholic community and one of its goals is to raise money
every year in support of students and teachers within diocesan Catholic
schools.
“Our donation is being provided to the Diocese of Arlington in
support of our mission to be used as directed by Bishop Burbidge and made
possible by the hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our
sponsors,” said President Patrick Ennis.
CBN-NOVA currently is comprised of four local chapters, including
Alexandria, Arlington, Dulles and Prince William.
“Plans are currently being established to open a Tysons chapter
in 2020,” said Ennis. “With this growth, CBN-NOVA also is looking for volunteer
members to assist in new initiatives in the areas of social media and events
that it will be expanding next year.”
Georgia Graves, past president, said the check presentation was
very important for CBN “to finally be able to meet the bishop and have an
opportunity to show him our desire to reengage with Catholic education,” she
said. “Now that we have his participation, we feel our future is solidified having
the support of the diocese as we move forward.”
The donation will make a difference in the diocese.
“Already in my first month I’ve been involved in trying to solve
and find resources for schools to help families provide tuition assistance, so
every little bit helps a lot,” said Joseph E. Vorbach III, diocesan
superintendent of schools.
CBN-NOVA will host its Business Person of the Year awards banquet
at St. Ambrose Oct. 3. Dr. John Bruchalski, founder of Divine Mercy Care in
Fairfax, is non-profit executive of the year and Wayne Cyron of Cyron and
Miller LLP is business person of the year.
