Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington
Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington is bringing “Mary
Poppins” to flight. The production is directed by Sarah Zimmerman. Mary Poppins
is played by Emma Powers; Bert is played by Ethan O’Donovan; Jane Banks by Lara
Sunter; Michael Banks by Maddie Hunt; and Mr. Banks by Anthony Soccaras.
Zimmerman said she looked for a show with a female-heavy ensemble that would be
fun for all ages. She said the meaning behind the song “Feed the Birds” ties
into the Catholic mission. “It is easy to get wrapped up in our crazy, busy,
hectic lives, but we need to remember to always stop and help those who are
less fortunate,” she said. “It only takes a small amount (a ‘tuppence’) to help
those less fortunate.”
If you go:
“Mary Poppins,” Bishop O’Connell High School, 6600 Little
Falls Rd., Arlington, April 26-28 at 7 p.m.; April 29 at 2 p.m. Bishopoconnell.org/ocplayers

Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax
Students at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax will perform
“Thoroughly Modern Millie,” a story about a woman who moved to New York in
search of a new life for herself. Her plan is to get a job and marry her boss.
Everything goes awry and she falls in love with another man who doesn’t fit in
her plan.
Kathy Silvia d’Alelio, director of the school’s theater arts
program, chose the production because she knew she had the actors, singers and
dancers to pull it off. “I was not sure about the dancing, as it is a very
heavy tap dance show, but my choreographer assured me he could make them tap,”
she said. “The enthusiastic response from the students when the show was
announced confirmed that our choice was a popular one.” The main actors are
Gracie Tecala playing Millie; Nick Herrera playing Jimmy; Ava Plante playing
Miss Dorothy; and Nick Burgos playing Trevor Graydon.
If you go:
“Thoroughly Modern Millie,” Paul VI Catholic High School, 10675
Fairfax Blvd., Fairfax, April 13-14 at 7:30 p.m., April 15 at 2 p.m. Email
