Dr. Michael Anthony Creedon of Vienna died suddenly Sept. 5 at
the age of 76. He was the husband of Lorna (Stanley) Creedon; brother of
Therese Wilson; Father Gerry Creedon, pastor of Holy Family Church in Dale City;
Nora Mary Hyde; Oliver; Bernard; Thomas; Joseph; Dominic; William J.; Miriam
O’Connell; and Margaret O’Shea. He was preceded in death by his brothers Drs. Cornelius
D. and Richard Creedon. He was born June 5, 1941, to John and Margaret “Gretta”
Creedon.
“Michael valued his family and friends above everything else in
his life. He never met a stranger — they were all people he just didn’t know
yet,” said Lorna Creedon. “He had a gift for friendship and knew people all
over the world. His friendships were often lifelong — because he was a faithful
friend, showing up in good times and bad.”
He arrived in the United States in 1964 as a young priest and
served in the Diocese of Richmond for nine years. His faith was important to
him and he continued to minister to people throughout his life.
Michael earned a doctorate in social work and his career as a
gerontologist took him all over the world. Through his tenure as a professor
and a lecturer, he touched many peoples’ lives — helping them to transition to
a successful and happy retirement, as well as helping to educate those working
in service to older adults. He worked with financial institutions and
governments to prevent financial abuse of the elderly. The topics he tackled in
his career were wide and varied, and his work brought him great fulfillment and
joy.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Sept. 30 at at Holy
Family Church, 14160 Ferndale Rd., Dale City 10:30 a.m. He will be interred with
his family in County Cork, Ireland.
